journal prompt series #12
This week I’m going to continue the journal prompt series on the topic of gratitude!!! It’s so important in recovery and shifts your mindset in a positive direction. Even scribbling one sentence down each morning helps. Enjoy!!!
What is the first thing that made you smile today?
Mable
What is your favorite part of the day and why?
The morning. I love getting up with the feeling of a new day full of possibilities. The morning sets you up for success and dictates how your day is going to go. I’m thankful that I’ve learned exactly how my morning should be spent with gratitude and bible study, yoga, and meditation. I actually get disappointed when the morning is over.
What are five small moments that you were grateful for this past week?
1) Hearing my sister talk about having babies
2) Feeling God during the gospel at church
3) Hearing my cat meowing through the door when I got home
4) Naturally feeling happy just by talking to my dad on the phone
5) Writing in my journal that I’m truly proud of myself
When do you feel the most abundant?
I feel most abundant when I’m surrounded by my family laughing, conquering whatever fear is holding me back, and reflecting on how much I’ve grown over the past year. I also realize how abundant I truly am when I hear other life stories filled with struggle. I try to remember them and be grateful for my own story each day.
What decisions are easy for you to make?
It’s easy for me to put others first, seek guidance from God, and take the harder yet better route in life. I’ve learned how rewarding this feels, and my brain knows I’ll get happy feelings when it’s all over.
What is important to you?
The most important thing to me is my relationships (especially with my family). I always want to be there to support them when I can and lean on them when I need it. My cat is included in this (meow). More recently, it’s become so important for me take care of myself. I have to manage my well-being every day and I need to be kind to myself while I do it. If I don’t take care of myself, nothing else matters. It’s also important for me to be hard working and use my passion. If I don’t, I don’t actually feel like myself.
Describe a broken dream that worked out for the best.
More recently, I was applying to dream jobs at universities and after not hearing back from so many, I started to apply to less than dreamlike jobs at laboratories. Obviously, I got the job and that’s where I am now, but I’ve learned the benefits. I’ve done really well with the active aspect of the job, and I have been able to truly excel. I think I needed this job before that dream job, and it will prepare me to achieve it one day.
List three ways you’re wiser now than a year ago.
1) I’ve learned to be patient and that good things come to those that wait
2) If I get an emotional response from something, I figure out the problem
3) Now, I always tackle the hard things first- it is worth it
REMEMBER- you can answer these too.
