journal prompt series #6

#GettingThingsDone

Firstly, I am sorry for not posting a blog post last week. I’ve switched to weekends at work and needed some time to adjust (hope that’s okay!). This week, I’m continuing with the journal prompt series with a focus on getting things done! Happy November!

Why are you hesitating to take the next step on a personal project? What do you need to move forward?

I am currently hesitating on working on my novel I am God. I have written a complete first draft and I printed out that version and made edits as well. When I started to go through the novel a second time, I felt like I needed to pause. There are so many details that I have thought of here and there that I need to get organized and add as I edit. I don’t want it to be filled with creative ideas everywhere and I don’t want to forget anything. Also, I felt like I needed to take a step back and do some research on God and the bible. I feel like I need more details that relate to Christianity and maybe even other religions. I guess I am still working on it but have just taken a pause from the writing to make sure it’s right.

Why should someone invest in you today? What do you want to accomplish?

I think someone should invest in me because I am going to make it and I am never going to stop. I have so many ideas and I have finally reached the stage where I have enough patience and dedication to put them into place. I think publishing my book series speaks for itself, but I also want to work on my company Oxford Conservation Group and continue seeking jobs at a university as well. I am dedicated, passionate, and again, will never stop.

Why are you working at your job? How can you make your job better serve your needs?

I am working at my job because it encompasses my background on animal behavior and well-being. I get to take care of thousands of animals a day and it brings me a ton of joy. It’s also going to help me further my career and ambition to work as a professor at a university. It involves science, research, and animal care, and I love it. My job could better serve my needs by allowing me time to still recover and grow, and I actually think I have found a way! At my job, I’m allowed to listen on headphones to whatever I want, and I spend this time listening to self-help podcasts, books on trauma/mental health, podcasts dedicated to staying sober, and so much more. I use the time to grow and better myself. I also want to move up in my job by getting certified as an animal technician.

What habits do you want to keep? What habits do you want to get rid of? What habits do you want to add to your life?

The most important thing in my life is to have a routine. I function so well knowing I can do it, I am going to do it, and it’s going to help. In my morning routine, I practice meditation and do a bible study. I want to add eating breakfast and listening to a sober podcast to start my day. At night, I use my daily planner, pack my lunch for the morning, lay out an outfit, charge my headphones and watch, make a coffee for the morning, and download podcasts or shows for the next day. I want to add going to a sober meeting at night and exercising to my nighttime routine. I also want to find time to journal and do five-minute brain dumps to write my novel. I want to get rid of watching TikTok’s and eating out.

If you could have any career, what would you do and why?

If I could have any career, I would be a writer. Nothing brings me more joy than coming up with new ideas and getting them on paper. If I could have everything, I would do this every day.

How do YOU get things done? What’s the hardest to do? What’s the easiest?

I have worked hard to develop a system to getting things done. Now, the easiest thing to do is go to work because I “have” to do this work and it doesn’t require as much self-discipline. It’s the things I want to do but technically don’t have to that makes getting things done hard. For this, I swear by the anti-planner that breaks down the reasons you are not getting things done and provides tools to do it. My favorites are using timers, music, and lists (if you know, you know). For me, the reason I don’t get things done is because of anxiety. So, I have to provide myself with a peaceful, calm approach to getting things done. Meditation helps, but it also is just something you have to work through. Fake it till you make it. It gets easier.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. You can get things done.

xoxo
